Bird flu causes over 1.3 billion Yuan loss of live chicken and chicken products

Recently, after the occurrence of bird flu, although H7N9 bird flu epidemic doesn’t happen to poultry, poultry industry in our country is still greatly impacted. According to preliminary estimation of China Animal Agriculture Association, up to 15th of this month, direct loss of baby meat chicken has been over 3.7 billion Yuan, and live chicken and chicken product sales have lost over 13 billion Yuan.

The journalist got the information from the video meeting of “The Whole Country Strengthens Monitoring of H7N9 Bird Flu Virus and Stabilizes Poultry Industry” held on 16th.  

It’s known that since the occurrence of bird flu, market need for meat chicken and eggs in the country has dropped abruptly. Sales of chick and live chicken are blocked severely. Breeding farmers don’t dare to supplement. The industry development faces great pressure and severe challenges.

Ministry of Agriculture demands that Agriculture Departments at all levels do well the job of H7N9 bird flu prevention and control, strengthen epidemic survey and virus monitoring, do well the job of live poultry operating market supervision, and information distribution and early warning. At the same time, work hard to ensure poultry industry develop healthily and stably, strengthen the efforts of fiscal subsidy for poultry seed farms, breeding farms and variety resource farms; actively coordinate credit capital, satisfy key poultry farms, and speed up capital demand of enterprise normal operation; strengthen supervision on enterprise honoring contract orders; organize grass-root animal husbandry and veterinary promotion teams to go deep into production frontline; publicize that poultry products qualified for quarantine and bought from formal markets and supermarkets are safe, to promote consuming confidence.  

Recently, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Departments at all levels in the country, especially in provinces and cities like Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui, Beijing, He’nan, conducted epidemic surveys on all kinds of poultry farms and didn’t find clinical abnormal circumstances happened to animals. At the same time, they conducted monitoring sampling on live poultry operating farms, livestock farms, slaughterhouses and wild bird habitats in the whole country. So far, 47801 samples have finished testing. 39 samples are found to be H7N9 bird flu virus positive, all coming from Shanghai, Anhui, Zhejiang and Jiangsu.

Up to now, H7N9 Bird Flu virus hasn’t been separated from samples from live bird trade market and wild pigeons. H7N9 Bird Flu virus has been separated from samples from livestock and poultry farms, wild bird habitats and slaughterhouses. No abnormal situation occurs during survey on poultry farms.

    We learned from the meeting of provincial animal husbandry work held on January 1 that Jaingxi focuses on establishment of cleaner production and standardized demonstration of livestock integrates capital and boosts breeding development of standardized scale. At present, Jaingxi has finished feces management and transformation of 3,600 pig farms whose annual pig sales volume over 1,000, with a transformation task finish rate of 75%. The improvement of breeding level of standardized scale increases live pig exported sales volume in our province. Last year, there were over 12 million live pigs in the whole province transferred to other localities, among which live pigs supplied to Shanghai reached 1.8 million, ranking the first in the country for the first time; among which live pigs supplied to Hong Kong reached 300,000, ranking the second in the country.
